Uppity Women of the Bible/Great Hall

April 7-May 19

with Calvary's Adult Christian Education Committee

Uppity Women of the Bible (from the Living the Questions people) is a DVD-based series featuring Hebrew Bible professor Dr. Lisa Wolfe. Combining careful scholarship with humor and fresh insights, Dr. Wolfe presents lively, thoughtful discussions of Ruth, The Song of Songs, Esther, and Judith.

Developed for adult study groups, the series is comprised of engaging 10-15 minute presentations. Each session ends with discussion questions so that participants can understand, debate, and explore the issues raised by the stories of these often misunderstood Biblical women.

Each session can stand alone- this is a good class for drop-in participants.  Members of the ACE committee will facilitate the sessions.

Family Sanctuary: Spirituality in Relationships/Emison Room

April 7-May 19

with Calvary's Adult Christian Education Committee

Those who have participated in the Family Sanctuary classes have overwhelmingly requested that this class continue.  As before, this class offers an opportunity for participants to discuss the issues and needs they bring to the session.  The environment of the class is a small group in which open and honest dialogue with other members of our Calvary family occurs.  The initial session on April 7 will be an input session to determine how the class members wish to go forward. Attending the initial sessions will assure interested parishioners a place at the table.

Education for Ministry (EFM)/Montgomery Foyer

Education for Ministry is a four-year intensive learning experience for adults.  In a seminar setting, up to eleven people study the Bible, church history, theology, and contemporary church issues.  Learning to think theologically is also a core component of the program.  EFM was created at the University of the South, and its curriculum is a distillation of that which is used in the Seminary at the University.  Participants learn the theological disciplines as well as the application of this knowledge in their lives.  Each year's group may include students from more than one year of the program.  Students are asked to commit to one year at a time.  Enrollment takes place during the summer, before the group begins its fall session. For more information about EFM, please contact Martin Jellinek.
