Shelby County Interfaith (SCI) is an ecumenical, faith-based organization, which seeks, through community consensus, changes in civic and governmental life. Calvary was one of the first churches to join this organization, which has involved dozens of member churches in a process of changing conditions in areas of transportation, education, housing, and economic development.
Currently, SCI is working to change predatory lending practices, which are causing an epidemic of bankruptcy in Shelby County (the worst in the country). Plans are in the works to bring a credit union to Shelby County which would be an ethical and dependable alternative for lower income home buyers, in cooperation with other ethical lenders in the county, as well as a source of education for personal financial matters.
