Calvary's Choirs

The Parish Choir

This charming, hearty group of volunteers of all ages sings for the 9:00 liturgy each Sunday morning. The level of music is comfortable for many singers while still offering a challenge. There is no formal audition for this group, however the Organist-Choirmaster does wish to have a conversation with interested persons prior to their joining the group. Parish Choir rehearses on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and prior to the 9:00 liturgy on Sunday mornings. Regular attendance at rehearsals and on Sundays is expected.

The Children's Choir

The Children’s Choir, directed by Amy Vails, for children SR-K through 3rd grade, rehearses each Wednesday during Koinonia. The choir sings one Sunday a month during the 9:00 a.m. liturgy. Children learn the basics of music and singing through a varied offering including Orff instruments. Part singing is also a component in this training.

Amy Vails has a breadth of experience in the field of children’s music. She is an Orff Music Teacher at Cherokee Elementary School in the Memphis City School System, and has served for the past 5 years as the Good Shepherd Choir Director at St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral. She is also a Suzuki teacher as well as a harpist and cellist.

Calvary Ringers (The Handbell Choir)
Led by Karla Philipp, this choir rehearses weekly and presents music at various times during the year. Experience is not necessary although an ability to read music does help.
